Dioon
Dioon
The species in the genus dioon are perennial, evergreen cycads with cylindrical stem axis is partially in the ground. The plant is thickened and made of soft wood, rarely having above ground branches. Like other cycads, coral-like roots are sometimes formed that grow up from the primary root and branch out quickly just below the soil surface. The individual roots are thickened rhizomes. The leaves are pinnate, spirally arranged, interspersed with cataphylls, with leaflets not articulated and lacking a midrib. The seeds are spherical, ovate or ellipsoidal. It is native to Mexico and Central America.
Stangeria
Stangeria
Stangeria is a cycad endemic to southern Africa. The genus includes only one species. Stangeria is a very long-lived, perennial, evergreen cycad. Leaves are stalked, feathered and fern-like. They are pinnately-veined, which distinguishes the species from all other cycads. Stems are completely subterranean and the root tuber is shaped like a carrot. Both male and female cones are pedunculated and covered with silvery hair when young, which is deciduous at maturity. The seeds consist of a hard, dark red part, which is surrounded by a fleshy, purple seed coat, which later turns brown.
Bowenia

Encephalartos
Bread tree
Bread tree is a genus of cycad native to Africa. The persistent, pinnate leaves are arranged in a terminal spreading crown, or ascending. The rigid leaflets are variously spiny or incised along their margins. Male cones are elongated, and three or four may appear at a time. Female cones are borne singly, or up to three at a time, and may weigh up to 60 pounds. The rootlets produce root tubercles at ground level.
Ceratozamia
Ceratozamia
The plants are dioecious, with a globose or cylindrical stem, rarely dichotomously branched. The leaves are pinnately compound, straight, and spirally arranged. The petioles and rachis often have spines, though there may be very few to none. Leaflets are simple, entire, and articulate at the base, with parallel side veins and no distinct central vein. Male cones are cylindrical, upright, hairy, and stalked. Female cones are stalked or sessile, erect, and have short hairs. Seeds are oblong or elliptical, with a fleshy whitish outer coat. The genus contains 27 known currently living species and one or two fossil species. Most species are endemic to mountainous areas of Mexico, while few species extend into the mountains of Guatemala, Honduras and Belize.
Macrozamia
Macrozamia
Macrozamia is a genus of around forty species of cycads, family Zamiaceae, all of which are endemic to Australia. The greatest diversity of species occurs in eastern Australia. A genus of cycads with partially submerged bole or tree, small to medium height, bearing a crown of palm-like fronds. The dioecious plants bear large cones, becoming even larger when ripening on the female, containing reproductive parts of great size.
Zamia
Cardboard palms
Cardboard palms grow as shrubby plants, superficially fern-like or palm-like. They are native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas. Cardboard palms are characteristic for their aerial or subterranean stems, spirally-arranged leaves with oval leaflets, and reproductive cones. Like ferns, they reproduce via spores. Although they grow naturally in specific tropical habitats, some species are highly adaptable and make popular garden and house plants.
