How to Propagate Snowflakes?
The primary methods of propagating snowflakes include seed sowing, division, and offsets. Successful propagation depends on factors such as adequate light, a well-drained soil mix, and maintaining temperatures around 50-55°F (10-13°C). For snowflakes, a special consideration is to avoid waterlogged conditions which can rot bulbs. Generally, propagating snowflakes is of moderate difficulty due to the potential for bulb rot and the time seeds take to germinate. The recommended steps are: 1) After flowering, lift and divide the bulbs in late summer; 2) Replant divisions immediately, placing them 3 inches apart at the same depth they were previously; 3) Water sparingly until growth appears. This approach should yield healthy new snowflakes plants.
