Linum flavum 'Compactum'
Golden flax 'Compactum'
Golden flax 'Compactum' is a dwarf perennial herb known for its clump-forming habit and the bright yellow, saucer-shaped flowers that bloom in early summer. It typically grows with slender stems and small, lance-shaped, glaucous-green leaves, adapted to thrive in well-drained soils and full sun conditions. Attracting bees and butterflies, golden flax 'Compactum' is a charming addition to rock gardens or borders.
Linum usitatissimum
Flax
Flax (Linum usitatissimum) is a slender straight and narrow-leafed annual that produces sky-blue flowers in summer. After blooming each flower produces a seed pod of 4 to 10 seeds. Flax is cultivated for its fiber linseed oil and edible seeds. It prefers full sun and cool weather and will grow from 61 to 91 cm tall.
Linum grandiflorum
Scarlet flax
Although native to Algeria, scarlet flax has been introduced in many other countries. This showy annual produces bright red flowers with light blue pollen. In spite of its common name, this flowering plant is not intended for consumption.
Linum narbonense 'Heavenly Blue'
Beautiful flax 'Heavenly Blue'
The beautiful flax 'Heavenly Blue' variety of Beautiful flax is appropriately named for the alluring blue color of its flowers, although this isn't what separates it from the parent plant. The variety is a compact cultivar of Beautiful flax. It only grows to a height of 50 cm compared to its 60 cm high parent plant.
Linum perenne
Blue Flax
Blue Flax is a herbaceous perennial originally native to Europe. It blooms profusely over two to three months starting in late spring. Oil can be extracted from the seeds, though blue Flax produces less than half as many seeds as its annual relatives. Linen can be made from the stems.
Linum lewisii
Lewis flax
Lewis flax (Linum lewisii) is a perennial that will grow from 61 to 91 cm tall and 46 to 61 cm wide. Lewis flax blossoms only last a day but bloom profusely throughout the season. This plant is heat and drought tolerant.
