This rocktrumpet is named after Alice du Pont Mills (1912–2002) the celebrated American environmentalist, horse breeder, and aviator.

Many of these species are cultivated as ornamentals – they do well outside in warm climates, or inside in temperate ones. Like most other plants within the dogbane family, many mandevilla 'Sunparacoho' are toxic to humans and animals.
