How to Propagate Marigolds?
Propagation of marigolds is commonly done through seeds, as they germinate easily. For successful seeding, provide well-drained soil, maintain a temperature around 70°F, and ensure good light. While generally simple, it can be less successful if temperatures are cool or if the soil is too moist or compact. For cuttings, choose a healthy, non-flowering stem, and use rooting hormone for improved outcomes. Propagation by division is less common but possible with established plants. Given the right conditions, propagation difficulty is low.
Steps for seed propagation:
1.Fill a tray with well-draining soil mix.
2.Scatter seeds on the soil surface, covering lightly with soil.
3.Water gently to moisten the soil without displacing seeds.
4.Place the tray in a warm area with bright, indirect light.
5.Keep the soil consistently moist until germination, which usually takes 5-14 days.
6.Transplant seedlings once they’ve developed a few sets of true leaves and are large enough to handle.
