Temperature requirements for first year or seedling Purple coneflower

Purple coneflower
Echinacea purpurea
Learn More
If this is the first year of your Purple coneflower outside as a new plant, then it may need a little extra tending during the coldest months of the year. Not only can frost more severely damage a first-year Purple coneflower, but it can also prevent it from growing back as a healthy plant come spring. This plant needs to be kept at 40℉(5℃) or above when they’re not yet established, which can be done either by bringing your Purple coneflower inside for a month or two, or putting up mulch or fabric barriers that protect from frost damage.
It’s also a good idea to plant Purple coneflower in a shadier spot during the first year or two, as smaller and weaker plants have a more difficult time maintaining their own temperatures in the heat. First-year Purple coneflower should receive no more than five hours of direct sunlight per day, particularly if the ambient daytime temperature gets above 80℉(27℃). Shadecloth and frequent watering or misting are the keys to summer heat control.

Botanical name: Echinacea purpurea

Description
Purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) is an herb native to North America that flourishes in prairie environments or open wooded areas. The purple coneflower makes a good addition to a flower bed or garden because its blooms last the whole summer and attract pollinators such as bees and hummingbirds.
Garden Use
Echinacea spp. of Compositae have become some of the most popular flowers in recent years. They are easy to care for and bloom throughout the summer. These perennial herbs can be planted in gardens or potted, and are also excellent as cut flowers. The central part of the plant's flower is round and bulging, like a pine cone. Its flowers are large, colorful, and varied.
