Description

Briggsia is a genus that consists of 22 species of herbaceous perennials, native to the Himalayas, China and Vietnam. These rhizomous plants with stems or stemless are rarely branched. Leaves few to many, crowded at the tips. Flowers are bell-shaped, 2 to 3 cm long, with 1 to 2 cm in diameter, with 2-lipped petals in blue, purple to red, or orange to white, spotted within.

The briggsia speciosa is a stemless African violet plant found growing on moss-filled cliffs and rocky terrain. The plant is easy to spot in the wild in its native China, thanks to its attractive purple flowers and dark green foliage.

Briggsia mihieri
Briggsia mihieri is distinguished from other members of its genus by its smooth, short, hairless stalk. Its adult leaves are hairless too. The plant flowers in the early autumn and is naturally found in shaded, rocky areas. Its fruit appears in the late autumn.
