The chelone, often called turtlehead plants, generally require moderate care. They need full to partial sun, plenty of moisture, and a humid, mid-range temperature environment. These plants prefer rich, well-draining soil. They are relatively tough, but can be susceptible to powdery mildew, root rot if waterlogged, and certain insects like slugs. Seasonally, they need extra protection from intense summer sun and should be mulched during winter for root protection. Pruning in late autumn can aid in robust spring growth.
