Species of Dogwood

Dogwoods
Flowering dogwoods appear in many 19th-century paintings because of their spreading leaves and attractive flowers (which can appear in shades of red, pink, and white). In spite of these trees' North American origin, one Christian legend states that Jesus Christ was crucified on a cross made of dogwoods, and that they are relatively small trees because God no longer allows them to grow tall enough to be used for crosses.
Alangium
Alangium consists of small trees shrubs and lianas. The entire or lobed leaves are alternate. The bisexual (rarely unisexual) nectariferous flowers are arranged in axillary cymes. The flowers have 4-10 small sepals and 4-10 linear petals. The fruit is drupe. As of spring 2014 The Plant List recognises 42 accepted species (including infraspecific names). Alangium is native to Africa Asia Australia the western Pacific Ocean islands and New Caledonia.
