Silver cloak fern
Silver cloak fern is unusual among ferns for its drought tolerance. The name "silver cloak fern" comes from the waxy, scaly, silver-white coating underneath its leaves. In dry spells, the plant conserves water by curling its leaves up to expose its more protected undersides. Small and prostrate, silver cloak fern is not popular as a potted plant, but is often purchased for temperate rock gardens or drought-friendly gardens.
