Description

Golden dewdrops are a genus of shrubs and small trees. Many species are often cultivated as ornamentals in gardens or as hedges. These are fast-spreading plants, due in part to birds transporting the seeds. Their fast growth and rapid spread make golden dewdrops pesky invasive weeds in regions where they are introduced.

Species of Golden dewdrops

Duranta mutisii
Known as duranta mutisii, this shrub can reach up to 6 feet tall and produce clusters of fragrant purple flowers. Its fruit is toxic to humans but attracts birds and butterflies. Native to South America, it is found in tropical and subtropical regions.

Its gentle purple blossoms are often visited by butterflies and hummingbirds. Golden dewdrops is considered a weed in Australia, South Africa and certain parts of East Asia.
