Musa
Being some of the most widely cultivated fruits in the world, many species of musa are of tremendous commercial importance to humans. Some of the less sweet, more starchy edible varieties are referred to as "plantains," but these belong to the same genus as well. Musa and plantains have been incorporated into cuisines all over the globe - they are a staple food that can be found everywhere from Western supermarkets to tiny, remote villages. Globally, the world produces over 115,000,000 metric tonnes of musa per year!
