Elliptic rhynchotechum (Rhynchotechum ellipticum) can be found beside forest streams and in shady tropical woodlands. It is a small shrub that is most easily identified by its white berries that appear from late summer through fall and winter. The closely related Rhynchotechum formosanum is so similar in appearance to this plant that some botanists believe that they actually constitute a single species.

Rhynchotechum discolor (Rhynchotechum discolor) is a shrub with unique tier leaves that often bear a single fruit in the middle. The fruits harvested from rhynchotechum discolor are used in the manufacturing industry to create different dyes.
