Species of Rotala

Indian toothcup
Indian toothcup (Rotala indica) is most commonly grown as an aquarium plant since it is an attractive aquatic species with striking green and red leaves. It is popular since it is easy to care for, grows fast, and just needs adequate light to thrive.

Lowland rotala
Leaves are decussate, arranged oppositely in perpendicular pairs along the stems. The leaves are linear to lance-shaped to oval and up to 5 cm long. Flowers occur singly in leaf axils. Each has triangular sepals with long, narrow appendages and usually four tiny white petals in shades of pink to white. This plant is sometimes grown in aquaria.

Dwarf rotala
Dwarf rotala (Rotala rotundifolia) is an aquatic plant that has plenty of ornamental appeal to aquarium plant enthusiasts since it is one of the easiest-to-grow of the Rotala genus. It is celebrated for its fast growth and bright red foliage. This red color can be heightened by placing the plant under strong light.
